Life
Resident Evil
I finally got around to materializing the plan of watching Resident Evil with an old friend. We have been talking about going to watch the movie ever since it’s release, but something or the other always happened. I finally kicked the ball hard this Wednesday i.e. Dusshera, and we travelled to Lulu Mall Rajajinagar for the show! It was an amazing watch! My friend liked it even more cause he had played the game before. He was initially super skeptical, but did a complete 180 soon after! Game references, similarities, first person POV and many more such details made him absolutely love this adaptation!
Above is my poor attempt at getting photo of the title screen 😭. Each movie should have a hint for upcoming title screen! In the era before, movie makers used to have set sequences of producers, introduction, title screen, etc. Now, they just throw title screens randomly half an hour into the movie 🫠. I have started appreciating Yash’s skill of always getting a still and beautiful title screen click.
Old friend, Yash, Harsh and me later made a plan to have Vada Pav at CK’s. This is the same guy who was selling banger vada pav’s on 100 feet, opposite to 12th Main. He has opened up his new shop on 1st main now. We all reached there excited to have some mouth watering deep fried food and…it was closed!! Our luck has been pretty bad with visiting food stalls, first Amma and Appa, and now this. On reflection, we later realized that owners were Nepali and they consider Dusshera auspicious. All of the Nepalis are on holiday on the day!
We decided to wash off this defeat with a chai at Chaska Bun, following which we ended up in Khao aur Khaane do for Paratha’s. Review about the same is present in food section :). It started drizzling at this point, so we decided to take a temporary stop at my house and enjoy some chai from my cook. Another fumble, as we later learnt that he was on holiday. Guess the reason…he is Nepali! Well well…we had to have some chai now, so we headed down to Shambhu’s. And oh boy, I had forgotten, how much I like spending time here! It was all perfect, except one Sandwich which left spoilt tastes in our mouth. And…that’s why we headed for a coffee to Ainmane. This would have been the end of this endless food hopping spree, right right??
Well, I found the coffee expensive, so we headed for some good normal filter coffee to Sendhoor’s and here we were finally satisfied. Now, all we needed to do was to head back to our places for a cozy sleep ( if we could after all that caffeine intake :P ). If you haven’t noticed a pattern here, lemme break it down for you.
Hehe. Getting back, I call this strategy ‘bait and switch’, you lure people in with small baits, and keep switching those baits. Rinse and repeat till they give up 😈. Biggest catch being, I myself am not a conscious participant of this. My brain is the mastermind and my conscious brain, just a puppet in this play!
Hands off
I HAVE BECOME COOL. Cool, at least in the eyes of my younger self. Ever since I got a cycle when I was 10 or so, I wanted to ride it hands off. So many kids around me could do it effortlessly and here I was struggling to keep my hands away for a few seconds.
Until now. My elder self has cracked the code and now I drive hands off in the streets of Indiranagar. Of course, I do take caution so that I don’t cause an accident. But most of the time, I find myself with arms wide open enjoying the cool breeze in empty streets near my house. It feels SO GOOD! SO COOL!
Cowork
I ended up attending cowork this week too. As always, banger of a session. We had our usual suspects, few new joinee ( welcome Yash! ), few later comers ( looking at you Sohom and Azan ) and most sadly one departure. R.I.P. to Hari. We learnt about the incident from Tanvi when giving presentations. It’s tragic and I hope you rest in peace 🕊️.
This time’s presentation were super interesting!
- Tanvi presented her enhanced spaced repetition framework for learning to read Kannada. It’s a specialized framework cause she knows how to converse in the language but not read it.
- Ankur talked about his quest to understand behemoth codebase of Servo. I hope you get some quality contributions in!
- Aeish demonstrated her pixel art tool finds.
- Ken was back with another banger viz, this time of water consumed by food in a typical India banquet.
- Yash talked about his adventures with CAD to print an enclosure for his Vicharak chip.
- Given Sohom’s surprise entry towards the end, he ended up repeating his latest tech weeknote.
- Azan followed Sohom’s footstep and got baited into giving a last minute presentation where he talked about his ongoing adventures in network security.
- I blabbered about creating training plans around climbing. How do I go blank when asked to give presentations 😭.
Maybe just maybe
I had a little shower thought this week. A sudden realization has spawned a busy background thread in my mind. What if the only reason I suddenly started liking reading random articles on IndieWeb was my fatigue of LLM-esque writing. I have been interacting with them day in and day out! While extrapolating this point, I am also realizing that there are more things which I truly appreciate in these posts.
Few years back, I had told a fellow BengaluruFOSS organizer: “I love reading literary pieces from authors who I know personally”. Idea being, you know a side of them which they present to you. But when they write, you also start to learn about their other side. You gain an entirely new perspective about that person!
So maybe LLM-esque text isn’t the only reason, maybe it’s some weird combination of both 🤔.
Peter ki billi strikes again
Late nights slow songs hit different. My sleepless self was lying on the bed and for some reason decided to give PCRC’s Beta album another shot. And oh boy, IT SLAPS. This album isn’t something you listen in background while completing chores. This is something you close your eyes and absorb every word of. I am a big fan of beautiful lyrically heavy songs. This is also the reason why I love listening to Alec Benjamin so much! And this album, delivers on the exact same!
Bismillah has amazing music, something you would enjoy playing in background too. Though, it is not beautiful lyrically. Meanwhile, Beta makes up for the lost music genius, by weaving amazing lyrical songs that tell a story. I have a new a found respect for PCRC.
Meetup
I attended FP + Bangpypers Meetup on Saturday. It was my second odyessey to Bellandur in a span of 2 weeks. Thankfully, it was cloudy and slightly chill. And there not being heavy traffic meant there was less dust thrown around. As for the meetup, there were three talks:
- Sanchayan’s “Intro to Haskell” talk
- Lalith’s “AI for BI” talk, and
- Benjamin Philip’s “BEAM” related talk
Sanchayan as always delivers a banger talk. I have a feeling some people might find his talks heavy, but I always enjoy them. I am kinda a sucker for deep technical talks 😅.
Next up was Lalith, who only had a catchy title, rest of it was literally talking about his LLM slop project. Pretty disappointing.
And finally we had Benjamin, who gave a talk on BEAM VM, elixir and erlang. This seemed like a generic pitch of the language. All these people talk about distribution as a solved problem in BEAM VM, but have no idea what it actually means to work with scalable concurrency frameworks. Providing message passing and questionable fault tolerance is not enough. For high performance software like databases you need a framework which can provide access to custom async schedulers, light weight green threads, frameworks for safer concurrency (BEAM shines here), etc. This is an excellent read on one part of it: https://herecomesthemoon.net/2026/10/async-rust-where-does-the-scheduler-live/.
Zooming out, I am not calling out BEAM VM folks for false marketing, it’s these people who come and present without having actually worked on a system which fully exploits a machine and then goes beyond to exploit more, that spread the false promise! I might sound like an elitist here, but honestly I am not a fan of people who love to present facts as if they are some GURU, when they actually don’t care about knowing about the full picture.
Ettina Bhuja Hike
I was able to churn out my blog on Ettina Bhuja hike, do give it a read! Thanks to Emma Goto for inspiring me to write about my hikes!
Climbing
A rather uneventful week in climbing, but I am happy to have some of these in the middle. They help me redial my inner clock of fast progress. Real progress will take slow and sustained efforts, few lucky sends don’t make you strong suddenly. Keep learning, keep training, keep climbing! 💪
Sunday
My whole session was a repeat of falling off blue level 5 and red level 6 on overhang. I was able to make some interesting progress on level 6 red, but the blue one, it’s an excellent route. It has helped me highlight my weak points of pelvis not tilting inside, and weak pinch strength. Need to take them into account in the training plan!
I ended up sending level 5 purple and level 4 yellow again for videos for this weeknote xD. Enjoy the sends:
Tuesday
Another day with endless falls. Kept trying my luck on level 5 blue again. I should give up on it at this point I think. This is one of those routes, which are not about trying hard to figure out some creative beta or strength taking sequence of moves. This one requires two very particular things I am currently weak at. I will definitely keep an eye out and talk with others on how they are approaching it to not miss out on some creative beta. But otherwise, this climb goes into my unsent archive.
After getting tired from level 5 blue, I headed up to the second floor to try my luck on the coordination dyno level 5 red. I did make some interesting progress on the same with my friend, but it still feels pretty far away. Need to give more dedicated sessions to it
Thursday
Reset day! This time slab and semi slab wall got reset. I was able to easily complete level 3s and 4s. Didn’t flash them, but I don’t expect flashes on slabs, especially when there’s a tricky set.
I was able to send a level 5 black on semi-slab wall within 3-4 attempts which was quite refreshing from the previous two monotonous fall filled sessions. Though the best part of the session was: I almost sent a LEVEL 6 GREEN on semi-slab wall!! This one screams my style, tight heal hooks, credit card thin crimps and shouldery lock offs! What more could I ask for. I was a bit tired towards the end, so hope to send it completely this Sunday. Here’s my video of one of the attempts:
Food
This week again was a lot of food exploration
Khao aur khaane do
I visited Khao aur khaane do with a college friend of mine and then again with Yash, Harsh, etc.
- With the college friend, I tried out: chole bhature, aloo puri and chini malai toast
- Chole Bhature were fine, but they didn’t make them with the actual Delhi style big chole. And they were also super stingy in handing out extra portions of Chole. At one point, the extra Chole serving guy looked at me like I had asked for his kidney. Bad hospitality for overcharged Chole Bhature
:(. - Next up was Aloo Puri, SKIP IT. Don’t even order it, it’s straight up dog shit.
- Next up: Chini Malai Toast, toast was way too small and quantity of chini and malai was also pretty less. I could feel the final combination working out, but also felt they could have done better with quantities to make it a GOATed dessert. Sadly, this place doesn’t know how to do things rightly.

- Next, I went there on Wednesday with another old friend, Yash and Harsh. And this time we ordered Aloo, Gobi, Spinach and Muli ke Paratha. You can already guess where this is going, all of them were ehhh. I don’t think I am re-visiting this place anytime soon.
Friyo
I also tried Friyo, the overpriced frozen yoghurt dessert place. My friend had ordered a custom toppings version with banana caramel, hazelnut, chocolate, etc. and I ordered their signature Cherry On Top layered cup. Both of the combinations tasted bad. Only after some back and forth with my friend in crime, we realized combinations itself were not the problem. The frozen yoghurt base was. I have had frozen yoghurt before and actually liked it a lot! But this one left me unsatisfied :(. Another place I am not re-visiting again.
Shambhu
As part of bait and switch strategy, we had ended up at Sambhu’s to try their Vada Pav, Chai and Sandwich
- Vada pav slapped! They do make really good vada pavs! MUST TRY.
- Chai as always is amongst the best in Bengaluru.
- But they fumbled hard with the Paneer Grill Sandwich, it was so bad, we had to decide to have another round of coffee to get back the pleasant-ness in our mouth.
Sendhoor
I finally had a chance to have a nice filter coffee at Sendhoor’s this week. I had intentionally kept my expectations lower cause it’s hard to make a filter coffee which tastes considerably different in a positive way. I believe this helped, and I was able to enjoy the coffee a lot more!
Chung’s Pavilion
My cook decided to call a last minute rain check on Saturday evening, and that’s why me and flatmate found ourselves in Chung’s Pavilion to try their Chinese. We ordered Veg Ball Manchurian, Shangai Fried Rice and Dragon Rolls. Their quantity was better than the counterpart in Jayanagar which I have written about in an earlier weeknote. Shangai Friend Rice was decent too. Dragon Rolls were pretty bland, so I would skip on them the next time. But overall, a decent place to satisfy my occasional Chinese hunger pangs :P.
Watches
It was an interesting week for me around movies, anime and manga!
- I got around to watching Obsession which was lying around in a folder on my laptop for a long time. I regret not watching it earlier, shit got under my skin SO HARD! I love movies with less jump scares and more psychological horror!
- Next up, I finally completed
Beautiful Bones. I had been slowly chipping away at this anime for a month, and finally did a mini binge watch session to complete it! And…I am impressed. I was not much excited to continue watching cause it seemed too over the top super smart detective which solves cases without much sense. But..but..towards the end, they started connecting dots from seemingly random cases and through sheer masterpiece foreshadowing they introduced a main villain of the story!! OMG, I am a sucker for anime like this! But as with everything in my life right now, this fucking too had to end abruptly, there is no season 2!? My disappointment in anime industry at times is beyond measures 😭. - To fill in the void
Beautiful bonesleft, I started watching another anime called False Memory. This is a Chinese anime fromBliBliand have had me hooked since the first episode. Anime’s running length is only 7 episodes, but each one of them seems to be packed! Amazing animation style, and framerate? My buddies seem to have just slightly lowerOne Piecebudget . Hope to continue enjoying this and end it within next week.
Tech
Carrying along the momentum from last Saturday’s IWC session, I worked on my website this week too! I was finally able to find a permanent home for my images in the form of Cloudflare R2. They provide a generous free tier which I will happily exploit. I also don’t mind paying a bit, as it is already cheaper than competitive solutions.
A work item I have launched straight up to my priority list is fixing dimension of images and videos on mobile screens and providing a lightroom style component on my website. This will be the next item I will fix! Thanks Tanvi for nagging me enough to pick it up 🙈.
Interesting links
I lost a bunch of collected links this week after an accidental weeknote wipe. Enjoy the limited set I went through in the last few days:
