Birthday cake

This was my birthday week 🄳. I learnt Soumyadeep (my childhood friend) had been planning the Sakleshpur-Udupi-Mangalore birthday trip since 6 months ago!! On the D-day, he pretended to not know anything for the whole day, and at the exact stroke of the clock, he jumped right in front of me like Baburao does in Phir Hera Pheri for pizza delivery, but instead of demanding something, buddy shouted SURPRISE! I am super grateful to have such gem of a friend 😭.

Life

Stretching

I am truly annoyed by my lack of flexibility showing up on the wall mid climb. It’s so annoying to see someone do a creative beta using their flexibility and me unable to reproduce it :(. Tall people have their own version of the beta and short people usually leverage flexibility to achieve the same. Talk about nerfing, I am short and inflexible 😭!

I have been doing small stretching sessions as part of the warm up before climbing, but at this point I have saturated all the potential to be squeezed out from the limited time. I have realized I need dedicated time to stretch. So, I have decided to spend my mornings working on this! I used to go to swimming back in Jayanagar, but ever since shifting to Indiranagar I haven’t found a good cheap replacement for the same, so I might as well start doing stretching during that time. My first goal is get my pelvis to actually tilt forward when sitting in pancake position!

Plants from colleague

One of my colleagues is leaving her rented apartment to shift to a PG, sounds weird right? Usually it’s the opposite but she had lived in a PG for 7-8 years before moving companies and hence her residence. Well, it seems her first experience in a rented house has been very bad due to an asshole owner, and consequently she is moving back to the comforts of her PG.

Over the year she has lived in the apartment, she has created a lovely garden with roses, lemongrass, spinach, mogra, ajwain, etc. As she can’t carry over the plants to her new PG, she is giving all of them over to her friends!

When I was absolutely new to Bengaluru I used to grow a few money plants, but one day my neighbours uprooted and threw them away! I HATE THEM! I haven’t tried growing plants again. There has always been a desire, but PTSD and laziness wins over every single time. Until NOW, this opportunity was too good to let go of, so I got a purple rose plant, malabar spinach plant, ajwain, lemongrass and money plant for starters! I have signed a contract with these little buddies, where I will nurture them with love and care and hope they nurture my heart back ā¤ļø.

Pickleball

I finally tried Pickleball with one of my friends. Having denied to recognize it as a young man sport, it wasn’t pleasant to learn how hard and tiring it actually is! I am grateful to my friend for forcing me into trying it out. One thing to know about me is, I am a very slow sport learner, if an average person learns a sport in X days, it would be safe to assume that the same would take me 2X days! Same is the case with pickleball, I sucked so hard, my friend got tired of mocking me instead of running around šŸ˜‚. Well, I hope he doesn’t give up on me and helps me learn the sport, cause now I am invested! šŸ“

Kirans farm

After IndiaFOSS, I ran into Kiran in the climbing gym, he was there to entertain his daughter who has taken a recent interest in climbing. It’s super fun to see new people, especially kids try out body bending routes šŸ˜‚.

While watching his kiddo climb, we started discussing about his farm adventures and progress on various items from his talk. After some nerding out, he invited me to his farm directly! So, on Saturday and Sunday, I was with him hacking on his farm! Admittedly, I wasn’t the one doing primary hacking, I don’t know anything about working with electronics, but it was just SO MUCH fun watching him figure things out and explaining along side. Best thing I personally did was open up different extension cords and inspect the difference between well made Chinese and their poorly built Indian counterparts.

Sunset from the farm

We also had a bunch of mini adventures, first is hiking around the big property couple of times, I finally got around to use OSM Maps and Kiran having marked all the trails, borders, etc made it easier to roam around the almost jungle property that it is! During one of the evening walks, we crossed a thick forest region to reach a bunch of boulders which we both see having potential for rock climbing, another nice activity under TVC’s collective!

This time of the year also seems to coincide with animals hanging around the region. First are elephants migrating to greener pastures crossing this region and secondly, loads of leopards hanging around at the edge of National reserve forest. While we did not hear about leopards hanging around our exact visit time, we could hear crackers bursting over the night to chase elephants away. We also noticed a bunch of dung around the property indicating elephant’s presence nearby, thankfully none got curious enough to check our weird electronics filled shed :P.

Poems everyday

I have had a desire of reading poems regularly for a while, but never knew how I would achieve it. This week I landed upon poetry foundation’s daily RSS feed to help with that! Thanks to https://jatan.space/ for pointing it out :)

Climbing

Missed climbing this Sunday too, this is really bad cause it has been a pattern ever since I returned back to Bengaluru :(.

Tuesday

Something major happened. I COMPLETED THE RED LEVEL 5 on overhang, LETS FUCKING GOOOO!!!!!! I am so happy 😭. It happened so randomly, I just decided to give it a try after all the sessions I had dedicated on it earlier, and I got it on the first try!! Only sad part is not having video for the same :(.

I also got too excited after sending it and started working out level 6 routes on overhang itself. Surprisingly I made a lot of progress on both of them, maybe few more sessions and I can seriously send these!

Thursday

This time, wall on the second floor got reset. I was able to flash all level 3s and 4s in the set. But the best part is, I sent a black level 6! It’s a super shouldery, grip strength testing route, which happens to kinda be my style. It also felt a lot easier than the level 5s this time. I only have a video of one of the attempts, enjoy the same:

Food

Smash Guys

Burgers Dessert

Me and Soumyadeep went for Burger dinner on Tuesday evening and ended up in Smash Guys, with some help from one of the colleagues I stumbled into there, I ordered Cheese Chilly burger and Old Monk Chocolate Mousse. Both were super delicious! It’s definitely better than BeyondBurg, whose already limited vegetarian options are utter shit :(. Also what is up with these joints selling Diet Coke for 130 rupees 😭.

Breakfast in Bidadi

Thatte idli breakfast

Next morning, we embarked on a journey to Bidadi’s famous Thatte Idli breakfast. It was EHHH. I have had better in Jayanagar. Just to be clear, it was good, just not the best I have ever had. Also getting stuck in Bengaluru traffic while returning back made it even less worth šŸ™ƒ.

No. 10 Fort Cochin

This is a nice seafood restaurent near Bob’s Bar. I ordered Mix Vegetable Curry along side my all time favorite Brown Rice! Both were super delicious and to top it all of the Tender Coconut Pudding 🤤, must have if you around!

Work

Got put into PiP.
