A SUPER DUPER late weeknote, well I do have my rote memorized reasons ready, here we go:
- I was on a trip this long weekend to Sakleshpur, Udupi and Mangalore. What a time, it was so good that I forgot my phone even existed, truly healed! Detailed experience in a blog post entry hitting your reader soon ™️
:). - I had a childhood friend over, who I did the trip with! I was still busy entertaining him for the rest of the week too 🐒.
- And some important personal work which kept me occupied till Tuesday evening.
But after dropping off my friend to the station, I am finally free and hence penning down this weeknote right now on Wednesday evening. 😭
Life
IndiaFOSS second day
I had a blast on the second day of IndiaFOSS too! One thing which surprised me was the number of people hanging around on day 2. IndiaFOSS’s retention has improved a lot! It’s honestly great to see that because I am part of the stay-till-end group :). I blogged about my experience here. A bunch of IndieWebClub Blr peeps have also blogged about their experience, do checkout the feed to find them all!
After conf chill
After the conference I again hung out with FP and Rust India group peeps accompanied by Sohom, Harsh and Yash. We went out to The Bloom for some coffee and light snacks. We had initially planned to spend time in Kahale, but seeing a bunch of people there made Anupam’s eyes go W I D E. 👁️👄👁️
After the hang out, me, Yash and Harsh had some time to kill and started doing a mini photoshoot session. I have inherited a 15-20 year old Kodak EasyShare and am always trying to find an excuse to use it xD. We shot some really good photos, I think I also got one of the best photos of mine ever, thanks a lot Yash!! 🙇.
Before I talk about my next experience, lemme just state: Food review for The Bloom is in the section below :).
Now that food is out of the way, lets talk about something related to food actually being out 💩. I went to use the toilet and some MF had shat on the jet. That person didn’t even bother to clean it. In fact, jet was placed at an angle that I would have never realized there was shit on the side facing away. Whoever did this “shit”, YOU ARE DISGUSTING, please do not step into a public washroom ever after, FUCK YOU!
Hangout with Telegram group
After the cafe hangout, me, Harsh and Yash headed to Azuki to meet Akshit and Amogh for some nice Japanese dinner :). Except Amogh, who was my college senior, I have met everyone else in the group on Telegram. These are terminally online people but somehow also spend a LOT of time hanging out with each other in real life. Best combination if you were to ask me :).
Thanks 🙏
I also want to say thanks to all the people who lent me an ear to rant after last week’s fiasco. I am feeling much better after venting to enough people 🙈.
Writing experiment
I have been meaning to start writing personal-notes again, these are disparate notes which I write on random days trying to brain dump about work related matters, things I am not comfortable sharing on this website, etc.
I had forgotten I had started this practice earlier too! I only realized this while trying to make a repo with the same name 🙃. It was SO interesting to read what my 2023 self was thinking about. In few of the fundamental ways I still think the same way in 2026, maybe they are correct or maybe I am headed down the wrong path, only time will tell.
But yeah, I am going to try writing these notes more regularly than before, I want to relive the moments I felt reading those old notes over and over again!
Cowork
I got around to attending Nemo’s cowork session again this Tuesday! Interacting with people in these spaces always get me stoked to work on new and interesting ideas, PEOPLE ARE SO INTERESTING! This was the presentation section this time:
- IR for GUI by Ankur
- Xiaomi <> Samsung contacts fuckup by Tanvi
- Color palette of movies by Unnati
- Coffee bags 3D collection by Ken
- Statistical analysis by Kartik
- Lowering the barrier to submitting ideas for policies by Unknown
Climbing
I missed climbing on Sunday because of IndiaFOSS, I have mixed feelings about this because I also want to start focusing on strength and flexibility to get past the levels I am stuck at.
Another important observation I have made is, my forearms have been feeling like they have no power. But at the same time I can go ahead and do super strong moves. I find this occurrence confusing, I hope it’s not something like Toby faced 🤞.
Tuesday
Another day passes by and the red level 5 on overhang keeps mocking me, PLEASE JUST HAPPEN PLEASE! As if my plea is going to change the route in some way. All said and done, I am going to keep trying it. I AM COMING FOR YOU, STRONGER AFTER EVERY SESSION! 💢
After falling off the red multiple times, I shifted my focus to a green level 5 slab. Most of it was pretty chill but rest of my session was spent trying to execute it’s last move reliably.
I talked about not feeling powerful response from my forearms, but at the same time, I sent all the level 3s without a break near the end of the session and that didn’t tire me out 🤷♂️. Feeling bummed for not being tired, I moved on to do some physically taxing level 4s and 5s without any break and guess what, I STILL WASN’T TIRED! So next, I did 10 normal pulls, 10 weighted pull ups and a couple of core exercises with few sets. At the end, I left unsatisfied with the session cause I wasn’t tired 😭.
There are two only explanations for this, my body is not transmitting power and tired signals to my brain, or, I have somehow become even stronger. I would love to believe it’s the second, but have no proof 🙃.
Thursday
This was a super exciting session! They changed the first wall and the baby wall and oh boy some of the routes are beautiful!
I was able to flash almost all of the level 3s and 4s which was assuring after the setbacks over the past weeks. The only level 4 I wasn’t able to flash had a SUPER FUN bat hang 🦇 at the end of the it! Enjoy my video of doing the same xD
Next, I moved on to level 5s. There were only two in this set, one on each wall. I started with pink level 5 on baby wall cause that seemed crimpy which is usually my style. I wasn’t able to flash it, in fact it took more attempts than I would have loved, but I was able to send it finally and am happy with the custom beta I found for my height!
Next, I moved on to the yellow level 5 on first wall. Initially I was trying to do just the first move perfectly, but once I was able to repeat the sequence reliably, I just went for the second and then the third and somehow I sent it in that attempt itself!! Towards the end whole gym was astonished at the way I completed it cause I caught the last hold with a single hand and pulled myself towards the wall when I was parallel to it and stuck the move and then matched, it was all so crazy I still can’t digest I actually landed that move!!! I wish I had a video, that would prove the big injustice I am doing to the exact sequence, but sadly even I wasn’t expecting to send the route in that go, so none was recoded :(.
Food
The Bloom, Jayanagar
I had ordered Caramel banana iced latte and it slapped hard. It was really good! Even others seemed to have enjoyed all of their drinks. As we were a decently sized group with varying tastes and most of the people liked their drinks, I guess we can call it a “try if around” place :).
We also ordered some French Fries and even they were delicious. For some reason, most of the places I have tried fries at, I don’t end up liking them. It is very hard to make good fries. I don’t know if the explanation amounts to something, but that must mean something!
Azuki
I went to Azuki just after The Bloom and hence had a bit less appetite. To keep it light, I ordered simple Omu Rice and milk based bubble tea. Yash and Amogh had ordered matcha based bubble tea which I think was better 🤔.
For the desserts we had Mitarashi Dango, Anpanman and Pancake dessert. Mann I love Japanese desserts, they are all so good. 🤤
All good until bill arrives, this place is SUPER EXPENSIVE! 😵
Amma and Appa
Me, Harsh and Yash set out on a Tuesday morning wanting to get some good south indian breakfast at Amma and Appa. Guess the ONLY DAY it stays closed. 🫠
We ended up having breakfast at Srirangam, and honestly I am not a big fan of theirs, they make ehhh dosas. :/

Systems programming is a way of modelling software development. It’s not about a category of what you are working on, it’s a way of looking at the problem. An excellent systems programmer fully understands the systems involved. - Andrew KelleyThinking that high level programming languages are always the easiest way to create software is believing in a falsehood that in turn leads to over-reliance on dependencies, and that ultimately disconnects you from the reality of what the machine can do.- Looking at you Thorsten Bell who thinks static typed systems would disappear in the world of LLMs. It’s really stupid someone actually believes this 🫠. Any context which can be offloaded to a rather cheap deterministic system will ALWAYS thrive!
Plenty of trivial applications are best solved by gluing dependencies together, but if you ever want to try your hand at creating something innovative, then you will want to have full control over the core functionality of your program, in order to provide your users with a truly new and thoughtfully designed experience.Learning to understand systems in depth will make you not only better at using dependencies, but also at steering LLMs. This might seem counter-intuitive at first glance, but it’s kind of an obvious truth: how can you evaluate the quality of what you get from a dependency or an agent, if you have no idea of what’s even possible?
