A super hopeful and super depressing week in the same. I seriously don’t know what to do next because I was planning something major for my life and worked REALLY REALLY hard for it, but LUCK, LUCK, WHAT THE FUCK, why couldn’t you on my side this time!? After I had ruled out all the possibilities of the failure, had put in the hours, had made sure I would not trip on even the most minute details, why did it have to be my bad luck which tripped me over at the end. I need to figure out what step to take next, its confusion all the way down.
Life
College friends
On Sunday morning, I met couple of my college friends. We went to Cubbon Park for a refreshing morning stroll. Amidst the stroll we talked about a lot of instances from our college days, some I knew about, some I didn’t, some I wish I knew earlier about and some I wish I would have never know 😂. It’s always fun to catch up with these dumbos :P. I also learnt one of them is now employed by SpaceX working on LLM inference!!?? That’s bonkers crazy considering they don’t have a team in India and this guy is working from Bengaluru itself. It’s well deserved though, he is one of the smartest and most hard working person I know, hardwork + natural talent is a deadly combination.
After recharging our souls and draining the energy, we had a good replenishing breakfast in The Fresh Factory. Mann, this place is super expensive but serves amazing food!
Peter ki billi
I recently discovered Peter Cat Recording Company and have been completely hooked to their songs. So much so, I am writing this weeknote while enjoying We are getting married in the background.
Hmmm…this makes me realize that I am not able to enjoy the song cause I am focusing on typing and singing out loud at the same time, which is kinda bad multitasking.
Okay, turned off the song, so we were talking about this band, god bless my friend who told me about these guys, they compose songs with such delicacy, you feel bliss in every second. Bismillah has no bad songs, whole album is a fucking masterpiece. My stats of this band is higher than Snoop’s average day. In fact, they have been promoted to my offline collection in the mobile and my FLAC collection. Portrait of time only has few songs I liked, and BETA is literally a beta album, I don’t think I like any song from that album :(.
There is a sister band of this called Lifafa, I am yet to explore it, but having enjoyed few of it’s song in the long drive, I do have high hopes from it too :).
Dead Thursday night
I had been feeling thorny in my throat since Wednesday but everything went absolute south on Thursday night when a mosquito woke me up just after one hour of sleep and then my fever plus cough took over the transfer of responsibility to keep me up for the rest of the night. I was already super pissed and just then I got the worst news at 3 AM. It’s related to the opening paragraph above, and I just broke down at that point. I felt absolutely devastated. FUCK THIS SHIT.
My fever got washed down in the absolute rain of tears and my mind finally gave up at 6 AM. I did not realize when I fell asleep. I woke up at 12 PM and rushed to the office cause I wanted to offload this heavy heart to a friend.
If you find me talking about it right now, I might seem laughing it off, but internally I am completely broken, this was just unfair. I really wished I could give more details about this here right now, but I need some time to process it properly and plan the next step. I would unfold details about the incident in a future separate blogpost which is in work right now!
Zaitoon aflatoon?
I caught up with Amogh, Harsh and Yash over dinner at Zaitoon. Restaurent review is in the food section. It’s always fun to catch up with this bunch. Last I talked to Amogh was long long back, so there is so much more to talk with him, I need to get hold of him separately :P.
IndiaFOSS
I attended first day of IndiaFOSS on Saturday and it was amazing! Me and Yash spent all of the first half in Hardware devroom and OH BOI, both of us have left the room feeling super inspired to enroll in a makerspace immediately! I also caught up with so many from different groups, I met friends from failure mode meetup group, ex-colleague group, current colleague group, IndieWebClub group, FP India group and finally Rust India group, it was super fun to catch up with everyone! Awesome talks, good food and so many friends around, perfect recipe for a happy day.
Climbing
We are back to CLIMBING!!!!
All the excitement ends at this full stop. It was a depressing week in climbing too. I think all the fasting over two weeks affected my body pretty badly, I felt super weak for all the sessions and couldn’t even complete all the level 5s.
Sunday
I started out doing level 3s and level 4s in the new set, which was 2-3 walls considering I had been away for a few weeks. Level 3s were easy, and level 4s weren’t bad too, except this one purple colour route on overhang, honestly it took me way too many attempts and finally a plea of help to a fellow climber to shine his wisdom on me. Definitely not proud of the send 🙃.
With all the 4s done, I started eyeing overhang 5s. Ideally what should have been all sends, were in reality partial progress on all. But progress is progress and for first session after a break, it wasn’t as bad.
Tuesday
Is what I thought….there is this one level 5 red, OH MY GOD, it is so infuriating. No one, literally no one in the gym is struggling on it’s last move and here I am who spent WHOLE session just trying to do that single move. I figured out a good beta for the rest of the route, but I kept falling down on the last move over and over and over for 4-5 hours. Worst part is I held it just once while trying out the route from a middle section instead from the start. THAT, THAT one fluke fuelled my false hope to keep trying this tiring move for the rest of the session!
I finally gave up and tried another level 5 on semi-slab wall, turns out that was even harder than the red level 5 😭. I still managed to figure out a creative beta for one of the crux moves, leaving just two more moves, out of which one is the second crux move. I was out of gas after this and called it a day.
Thursday
“Today I am going to send this red level 5”. Only thought in my mind at the start of the session. I decided to practice only the last section of the climb separately, it had to be wired in my brain. Out of 10-15 tries, I stuck it 3 times. It wasn’t a majority number neither were the successful lands continuous. But as the move is tiring I decided to try the full route from the start, relying on that off chance that I land it once and can call the route DONE.
Sadly, that never came, I tried SO SO MANY times, but it just didn’t land. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!! I asked for some advice from experienced climbers around, but no one has been able to point out where I am falling short. It still is a project for me and I will return to it next week with more despise. 😠
Only positive event was, I did manage to send remaining level 5s in overhang and cave section. Sadly, forgot to take any videos for them :(.
Tech
- I have talked about setting up Anki to help me improve my vocabulary in previous weeknotes. I finally got around to do that and have started filling up words I come across during the reading sessions. Let’s see how it works out
:). - This week I dug into the rabbit hole of bin packing and online algorithms. Computer science is SO INTERESTING!!
Food
Madhus Iyenagar Bakery
As I was feeling so dejected, I decided to cheer myself up with sugar overloading and finally got around to researching Iyengar’s in/near Indiranagar. To my surprise, there was one super nearby to my house! Madhu’s Iyengar Bakery has amazing Chocolate Cream Bun and Dilpasand. I would go on to say, it’s second or third in my list of best cream buns in Bengaluru. DING DONG, and now is the time time for Fenil’s controversial takes: these cream buns are much much better than VB Bakery. This is the hill I am willing to die on.
Zaitoon
I had read about this restaurent so many times in Yash’s weeknote that I immediately agreed once it was put forward as a candidate. I had such high expectations of the food, but everything vegetarian we ordered was super average, actually on second thought much lower than average. Maybe the non-vegetarian food is better, but my vegetarian readers, I would suggest to avoid this place :(.
Katte Kulture
After an amazing day of talks and networking, a bunch of FPIndia and failure mode meetup folks decided to grab some coffee at Katte Kulture. Me and Yash tried Vietnamese Shakeratoo and Passion Fruit Coffee Cooler, both were awesome drinks, but if you ask Yash, former was much better :P.
Cream bun again
I took Yash and Sanchayan to the place I personally believe serves the best cream bun and honey cakes in Bengaluru. I am waiting for their reviews on the same to come in xD.

- When visiting stranger’s houses for interior design inspirations for my friend’s new house, we had seen a house with such pattern on almost every corner of the room. It matched colour of the component it was built for e.g. bed, cabinet, etc and my architect friend explained me how costly it was and how rich these fellas would be. Regardless, I really like the idea, and seeing the same very next week for corners of my windows, well well…

- Sunil Pai is someone I won’t respect for tech skills, but his organizational skills are remarkable! I really liked reading this piece, it feels like someone shone a mirror on my face, I think I might be going through the EXACT SAME THING. But I am already way off the path and definitely need a new start at this point 😓.

I was hooked instantly, it was so sweet to watch Bjorn grow up! Cute humans in the land of rising sun, it’s like a feast for my brain
:). This is the reason I am genuinely sad they are ending this streak, I would have loved to see more of their adventures. At the same time, when I keep myself in his boots, it does make sense why he doesn’t want to to continue anymore. At the end, I hope all of them a really healthy future!
