I am back in my hometown, Surat. It’s one thing to tear up from nostalgia, but for me the biggest tear-jerker is how my father consistently always comes to pick me up. This time I reached in afternoon, but most of the times I reach at 2 AM, that’s super late in the night! I always tell him I will come home as its just a few minutes of walk from railway station. But he still ALWAYS comes to pick me, be it in the middle of the night or pouring hard, he is always standing there with a smile.

MANN, it always tears me up, my role model loves me a bit too much. I hope to be a good parent like you one day. Whenever I am discussing this topic, I always get thrown back to this song by my favorite artist. The lyrics are just made for this, and the takeaway is the same:

Told him one day
I’ll Have a Son or a daughter
And when im a father too
I hope that I am just like you

Life

Back at home

Honestly, it feels like I never left this place. My mind switched to home mode almost immediately. Usually, it is a tad bit harder for the body to make the switch, some obvious first signs are taste of water, usual routine, how my body feels on different beddings, etc etc. But this time, my mind didn’t notice any of that. I bring this up cause I had mentioned in my previous weeknotes that I felt just at home after shifting places in Bengaluru too. I don’t know how I feel about this “not feel” situation, is it good or is it bad? Maybe good cause I am able to easily adjust to new things in life, or maybe bad cause I might have lost the “joy plus anxiety” combo I get hit with when trying something new 🤔.

Train journey

I have travelled by train my whole life and still continue to do so. Yes, I travelled to Surat, Gujarat from Benglauru, Karnataka using train. Whenever I tell people its a 30 hour journey, they act so surprised! They ask me super confused why I decide to take this journey over and over again. Well, I have a long list of reasons, I think I might have enough to pen down a separate blog post, but till then enjoy this excellent piece on the same topic from a fellow member of my IndieWebClub group: https://journal.jatan.space/trains-over-planes/

Cowork

I finally got a chance to attend Nemo’s coworking session this Tuesday! It was a low attendance day, so there were just five of us, but all of them were super fun and interesting people. Even though I had interesting conversations and good amount of work done, “highlight of the day” award was stolen by: GOLI SODA, I haven’t had it for SO SO LONG. I am forever indebted to the person who pointed me to the place which still sells it! Drink was absolutely delicious and I had the best time sipping and working after lunch. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely love to attend it again when I am back!

Contact

We had a birthday celebration at Toit on Tuesday, it was good spending time with my usual as well as bigger climbing group! But the highlight of the day was: CONTACT. Yeah yeah, it was banned in our group, but you know, there just might be a secret allegiance of members who still love the game. And this group might have assembled nearby in disguise of after-party tea, and just ended playing a few, only few (at least 10-15 games) rounds of it. Not saying any of it happened, it just might have. 🤷

Small world

Indiranagar is a small place, and I keep getting reminded of it when I bump into my friends randomly. This week I bumped into an old time friend, Akshit, in a garden near my house. Ngl, I think I had completely forgotten that he lived in Bengaluru itself :P. But it was nice to catch up with him and discuss what’s happening in his as such activity and travel filled life now. I hope I can stay in touch with him better :).

Climbing

This was a very very interesting week on the climbing front! I climbed outdoors and kinda participated in a competition?

Raogudlu

Sunday was my outdoor climbing day, we went to Raogudlu! I have been there before but this time it felt like a completely new place. They have dug up a whole new wide road to reach the temple on the top! Sadly, this has caused destruction of a lot of really nicely boulder lines, but on the bridge side, it has also opened up a LOT OF NEW LINES! We tried a few of them:

boulder-1 boulder-2 boulder-3

I was up there with the pros. Naturally this made me very scared, what if I couldn’t keep up with them? What if I just end up slowing everyone down? Thankfully, it all worked out surprisingly well. First we tried a possible 7b+ boulder, we only did the visible crack part of it, remaining section had a jump to the crimp and using a sloper to jump on a narrow jug. This final two moves sucked the soul out of the pros too! It was already not as easy of a climb on the crack part, but the next part just looked devilish! All of us figured out individual betas for the crack part, but mann that jump to the crimp was happening so high up with such low probability of landing it that we just decided to give up and move on for now. Maybe another try some other day with a harness!

Next we tried a 6a+, arete style boulder. Figuring out initial beta was a bit tricky, but once we did, all of us completed it the very next try!

Followed by this, we tried a 6b+(?) airplane style boulder, I narrowly escaped following on a bare rock during an attempt, so I decided to not try it anymore 😬.

Finally, we did a 6c+, and I almost flashed it!! I couldn’t figure out the top out cause I couldn’t find a good hold to use. This is where the pros came in, they showed a good area to use for the hold and also taught me proper top out technique! I was finally able to send it with much less struggle compared to anyone else :). I don’t have a video of full send, but instead only the ending part of the actual send, enjoy the same:

Tuesday

Tuesday was a super lazy climbing day, we all felt so lethargic that we ended up repeating a few routes, I did manage to send a black level 5 on semi-slab wall which I had not done earlier, so all in all okay-ish session.

Thursday

On Thursday, we had a comp (competition) in our gym!! Finally! I have been asking for one for so long. BUT BUT, the catch is…you had to find a girl climber to participate in it!? See, just know that I am very bad at this 😓, I know it wasn’t the same as asking a girl out for a date, but I just couldn’t :(. All of this also became more complicated cause the girls in my usual climbing group already partnered up with someone. At the end, I just ended up climbing the routes on my own like I usually do :P.

I flashed everything till level 5. I also got one red level 5 on second try (could have flashed it if not for a slip). And the next pink level 5 looked a bit too daunting, so skipped it for that day. News of the day was I almost got a LEVEL 7!!! Man, I should have tried it in the start of the session, I would have gotten it so easily, it was perfectly my style, super shouldery and super crimpy!

Food

Tech

I did a bunch of personal exploration this week!

TV Shows

I finally made some progress on The Flowers Of Evil. I have reached episode 14! Binge watchers would cringe looking at how slow my progress is, celebrating watching 3 episode in two weeks!!?? I had assumed I would spend most of the time in train completing the series, but I only completed 2 episodes in train. Now that I am writing this, I have realized that’s a single episode outside the journey, welllll…..
