Laluji himself was my chauffeur this week :P
Now that I am organizing random scribbles from all over my note taking places, I am realizing how LIVELY this week was!
Life
House Parties
I attended two house parties this week! One was for FIFA World Cup Finals and other one was for a friends birthday.
I am not a football/soccer fan as such, I have it given enough try, but watching football just doesn’t work out for me. Above this, I also believe cricket is much more interesting in that terms! Regardless of the sports details, just on the fun side, there’s more FLASHY stuff happening in cricket all the time! Though I don’t watch any of them right now, I just prefer to play them! 😁🏏⚽
We also played a bunch of other group games (one I remember is Mafia) and just had so much fun in general. A night well spent. :) . With all that fun, I slept at 03:00 AM that morning. Now I am usually an early sleeper, so it felt so weird waking up the next day. It felt like I had woken up in a weird world and was still dreaming. Very surreal feeling.
Unluckily life made me relieve it again in the same week, I slept at the same time on the birthday night too 😭. Though, this sleep felt much better, I wasn’t as groggy when I woke up. I guess it was because I was dead tired from dancing on all the hindi item songs late in the night 💃. We sung and danced loudly, everything was so LIVELY! Lively enough that we got unexpected guests with some weird match-my-style people knocking on our doors. Yeah, it was the F-ing police! 🚓 We had Kannadigas with us but still it took enough bribe for them to leave. A person can’t even sing and dance in their own house without being threatened to taken to the court, WHAT SCAM.
Super Senior
Next up, on Wednesday I met my super senior Arushit from college, he is on a career break and was wondering if companies working on databases spam LLMs as much as other places have started doing. I gave him a reality check of how bad it is not just in my company, but all the deep tech places I know of. It’s a sad reality, people don’t use them as tools, they use them as their overlords. Even when it betrays them repeatedly they believe that’s part of the normal software lifecycle, this happened with implementations earlier too right? At least people had much better understanding of what they were talking about then. Even a bullshitter needed to cross a high barrier of implementation to bullshit. Not converting this into an AI rant space, lets continue.
Hasgeek
Next up, on Friday I cancelled my scheduled talk in The Fifth Elephant organized by Hasgeek. I am SO SO DISAPPOINTED by them. They invited e6data to give a talk and I worked hard to get a really nice presentation up, did demo runs with them, and then just one week before the talk they tell me: “As we want to fit more talks, we have decided to cut down your talk to 15 minutes”. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? Your whole job is to organize conferences and you can’t do basic organizing? Humiliating invited speakers is even worse. It’s just sad how Hasgeek operates. I hoped they were more professional and serious about what they do. Rest assured I will try to make sure they don’t get any support from e6data going forward. 🫡
Sports
Climbing
This was an interesting week in climbing too. I am SO EXCITED to share my progress updates!
Level 6
First up, before overhang got reset I started trying a purple level 6. I didn’t expect much from it but surprisingly I sent it within a session’s span, that too trying non-actively 💪. Again, this does not mean it was easy, a bunch of my friends weren’t able to do even the FIRST MOVE! But personally, I do think it was on the soft side. Well anyways, enjoy the cool SPIN THE WORLD climb 🌪️.
One arm lock offs
Next up, I realized I can hold a one arm lock off on both hands for 2-3s!!! THIS IS HUGE FOR ME! I have talked earlier about how I would really like to do one arm lock offs and swing side to side. Till now, I had tried training for them in different ways, but my body wasn’t able to take it. I have been doing auxiliary exercises to support the extra load my body wasn’t able to handle. In my mind I thought, 6 months of these auxiliary exercises and then at least 6 months of weighted pull ups and then I might be able to hold a few seconds of one arm lock off. But lo and behold, before all of that, I did it RANDOMLY. My friends asked me to try it and IT JUST HAPPENED. I was SO SO SURPRISED when I did it. Enjoy a video of me doing it in my warm up everyday now :).
My old self
To make it even better I got a glimpse of me returning to my old self before injury. This Thursday overhang wall got FINALLY RESET! They did it before I enter depression 😂! Well well, this was a nice set and above all, I almost flashed everything till level 5! Level 3 and 4s were always flashable. Except this one 4, with a slightly big jump, your boy got it tho xD. I wasn’t expecting anything near flash from level 5s, I never do, after all they are not easy. And I was even more scared after watching a climber I respect, fall so many times on few moves of the climb over and over. Finally after all the observation I gathered some courage and went to try the black level 5 out. To my surprise, I FLASHED IT! I was so HAPPY!
Next up was a yellow level 5. I gave it a try and was able to do all of the moves with the exception of one. It seemed like a spanny move, a jump to a crimp hidden by a big unrelated hold :(. This was the the move I tried for rest of the session and luckily I was able to get it on a random try! Rest of the route was already in mind, so I ended up sending the whole route. Man, I LOVED IT! Before injury, I used to complete everything till level 5s on the day of the set itself, but since then I have been a bit slow. But this Thursday, I completed all of them!
Swimming
Swimming was business as usual, I missed going one day just after the birthday party night, but remaining days I was regular and I also completed 9 rounds (900m) every single day this week!
Food
Namma filter coffee
On Sunday, I saw a bill board outside one of my favorite coffee joints, Namma Filter Coffee, it was this:
As a true Indian, I was there to stand in line for free goodies! 🫡😭
Just kidding, I actually went there for a coffee around that time to see if there was enough crowd, if there had been more I had decided to leave, but surprisingly there wasn’t much! So I ended up trying out their free sample and to put it bluntly, I was expecting some coffee taste but this was just chocolate cake :(. Well here’s the photo of me standing in queue and the actual sample.
HSR
I have lived in HSR for quite a while! So after meeting Arushit, I went on a small food nostalgia walk, I only had so much appetite before dinner, so I had Samosa at the place I have found to serve best Samosas, Kachoris and Poha in Bengaluru! Next up, I tried Cream Buns at Iyengar just next to it. I had initially bought two flavours of Vanilla and Blueberry on Wednesday. Vanilla was meh, but blueberry somehow slapped! So I went there again on Saturday and bought Blueberry and Strawberry flavour 🙈. Both of them are highly recommended!
Random
On Monday, I tried out Cafe Cirque for their Bun Maska and Coffee. Coffee was actually pretty good, but for Bun Maska, they gave me melted cheese in Vada Pav buns???? I definitely did not pay for that, what scam.
Next, I tried Cream bun at another Iyengar I had spotted nearby, it was worse than I had thought. Never buying anything from there.
Writing this part of the weeknote is always scary cause it makes me realize how much I eat outside. So much for being regular to Swimming and Climbing. I will cut it down for sure. 🫡
Work
Work was pretty much chill this week, with manager of the ecosystem team absent, I had taken over the reigns and was doing managing plus IC work this week, it’s fun once in a while to do this. But overall, I am happy being an IC :).
Watch
I finally completed Peaky Blinders, I can’t get around to watching the move, I AM JUST SO DONE WITH IT.
I have reached my peak real world series exhaustion. Its time to do something different, so I went back to my loved fantasy world of anime. I wanted to watch something feel good, and hence asked a friend for advice on the same. He mentioned Sing For Yesterday, a slice of life anime, perfect for the calmer watch I wanted right now. I didn’t realize it then, but after staring at the anime page for some time I realized I had already watched it 😭.
At the end, I turned my back to own watch list and have started watching Journal With Witch. First episode was extremely beautiful, let’s see how the rest of the season flows!
Tech
On personal project front, I was finally able to overcome the zig dependency hurdle. It was actually a bug in my code itself rather than the compiler! I am glad I came back and did some more tinkering on the same. After this, I was able to setup benchmarking harness with zarrow integration of producing record batches and finally started implementing nested loop join. Let’s see how it works out :).
