Sports

This week can be defined as a climbing week, I DID SO MUCH CLIMBING! First, four days consecutively to prepare for Hampi trip. I really needed to do this cause I had realized in my early sessions last week that my tendons felt super weak, and it felt weird in fingers when trying crimps. As Hampi is made of granite boulders with super sharp credit card sized crimps and notoriously minute footholds, I had to be best at hanging from these thin crimps and find another credit card to balance whole body weight on.

I did not feel ready at the end, but it all worked out cause I climbed three days in Hampi after that. These days were long and short at the same time. I absolutely loved the whole experience, be on the lookout for a BIG BLOG on the whole experience soon!

Another update on climbing side is, the rote I posted last week, one I fell down from? I sent that climb!! And as I was angry on it for pushing me off the wall on video, I sent it 3-4 times every single day of climbing Well for now, enjoy the send:

Work

Work has been kinda boring, I haven’t been able to work on proper database internals/perf work for a while, and it is eating me inside out. Only good thing which happened was, I got to read Iceberg spec end-to-end. You know there are ideas which feel so simple when explained, almost like I would have come up with this easily, yeah for things like distributed logical tables at massive scales, this is not easy to come up with. But best ideas are super simple. This is a bell curve I deeply believe in! Someday I hopefully come up with something so simple, people think oh yeah that was obvious, when it totally wasn’t!

General tech

I setup weeknotes on my blog feed this week, and consequently published the prompt of weeknote I had written in my last IndieWebClub meetup. I wrote about some of my constraints and how I solved them for Astro framework. I was also able to fix my RSS feed in the process, thanks a lot Yash and Gunwant for helping me test this! 🙇

As, I was going to travel and didn’t want to break my RSS reader catchup habit, I setup Feeder on my phone after exporting list of URLs in OPML format from my newsboat instance. I would really like a feature where I can point to a remote OPML file and an app fetches content from all those URLs. This would allow me to keep newsboat and feeder URLs in sync using OPML easily. If you know about an app/feature which would allow this, I am all ears. Just for clarity, I am not looking for complete RSS sync server, which would sync my reads/unreads/saves etc across devices. Just list of RSS URLs to pull from a remote file.

I also ended up setting my domain: fknil.com, so everyone reading this: please shift your feed readers to point to fknil.com/rss.xml instead of fknil.pages.dev/rss.xml. Another small change in website is I have an updated favicon, my abstract art profile photo is same everywhere back again.

Food explore

I tried two places near Indiranagar metro station:

Chai time was ehh, I didn’t like their Chai much, also a bunch of items in their menu were not available. We ended up having cheese spinach sandwhich, which was average. So, wouldn’t visit this place, unless I want to sit and wile away my time.

In Bonum Cha, I was feeling adventurous and ordered Pink Oreo Milk Tea with Tapioca Pearls Boba. It wasn’t as bad as I expected, but not as good too. Another two friends of mine, ordered Mango shake with mango boba and watermelon litchi with popping boba. Watermelon Litchi was surprisingly good! But I do like Tapioca pearls boba more than popping boba.

On Sunday evening, I went to Chung’s Chinese Corner cause I was craving Veg Ball Manchurian, and suffice to say, I would never step in there ever again. They charge 300 for 6 balls of manchurian, are you kidding me 😭?? Even worse, they didn’t taste any good :(

Well this weeks, food explorations were not successful, but you know that’s part of the exploration, not always it would end up well.
